Heart Attack
Heart & circulatory disease is the UKs biggest killer, around 146,000 people have heart attacks every year.
One in three of these people will die before they reach hospital.

Accidents in the Home
Approximately 4,000 people die & 2.7 million are injured and need hospital treatment as a result of an accident in the home.

Road Accidents
In 2008 there were approximately 231,000 casualties from road accidents reported to the police, 2,538 people were killed.

Burns
Around 175,000 people attend A&E for treatment to burns every year. An average of 300 people die from their burns.

Drowning
There are over 500 water related fatalities in the UK every year; most of these are thought to be cases of accidental drowning. A majority of these happen in the summer months and occur at inland locations when people slip or fall from land or structures over water.

Electricity
There are over 30 deaths & nearly 4,000 injuries from accidents in the home caused by electricity each year.

Poisoning
Poisoning accounts for more than 100,000 hospital admissions in the UK each year. This includes accidental poisoning, which is particularly common in young children & overdoses.
The number of deaths from drug poisoning, from both legal and illegal drugs, has increased in recent years.
In 2008, 2,075 men & 853 women died as a result of drug poisoning
